Tennessee Titans sophomore quarterback Cam Ward is facing enormous pressure heading into his second season. The Titans are depending on their No. 1 overall quarterback to stay healthy and take a developmental step forward. Delivering is crucial under new head coach Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.
The Titans invested in Ward's growth and development this offseason. They paid weapons like Wan'Dale Robinson and Daniel Bellinger in free agency to reunite with Daboll. Most notably of all, they drafted Carnell Tate at No. 4 overall to help transform the passing attack, and he's already been doing that at OTAs.
There's legitimate excitement over the Titans' new-look offense. Daboll and the added weapons provide hope that Tennessee's offense is trending towards being significantly better in 2026. Regardless, the offense will rise or fall with Ward.
Titans' offense will go as far as Cam Ward takes them
The Titans didn't place Ward in ideal situations last season. Head coach Brian Callahan was fired midway through the year and replaced by interim Mike McCoy. Quarterbacks coach Bo Hardgree became the new play-caller even before that. There was no stability around Ward.
Despite that, Ward flashed far better production than his raw passing numbers indicate. The former Miami Hurricanes quarterback finished his rookie season having thrown for 3,169 yards, 15 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions. Ward was especially good after the bye week, throwing 10 TDs versus one pick.
Wards needs to be the heartbeat of the Titans' offense. Nothing particularly went right around him last season. Mike Borgonzi worked tirelessly this offseason to upgrade both the coaching staff and personnel around Ward. A repeat of last year would be considered unacceptable.
The responsibility isn't lost on Ward. The sophomore quarterback has already established himself as Tennessee's alpha leader. Ward's work ethic was a model of consistency throughout the ups and downs of his rookie campaign. His leadership qualities were never in question.
Ward is undeniably in a significantly improved situation. Taking complete advantage of better surroundings is ultimately up to him. Ward possesses every trait needed to handle the pressure being placed on his shoulders.
