The Tennessee Titans will have their veterans report to training camp on Tuesday. General manager Mike Borgonzi is making another move to shake up one of the most unproven positions on the roster. The Titans agreed to terms with free-agent cornerback Nazeeh Johnson, according to various reports.
Johnson is the fourth veteran addition at cornerback this offseason. The Titans began free agency by signing two new boundary starters in Alontae Taylor and Cor'Dale Flott. They also brought in Joshua Williams, who is expected to play a key reserve role.
Johnson, like Williams, has a significant connection to Borgonzi. They spent time together with the Kansas City Chiefs, winning multiple Super Bowls together. That familiarity with Borgonzi increases Johnson's chances of making the 53-man roster out of training camp.
Titans make a last-minute move at cornerback before training camp begins
Johnson initially entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick of the Chiefs during the 2022 NFL Draft. Borgonzi was the Chiefs' assistant general manager at the time. Johnson spent his entire four-year rookie contract with the organization, though he was waived a handful of times and suffered serious knee and shoulder injuries throughout the duration.
The Titans lack terrific depth at cornerback. As currently constructed, the fifth cornerback spot might come down to a training camp battle between three undrafted free agents, Keydrain Calligan, and Micah Robinson. Johnson is experienced enough to join the fray.
Johnson may also compete for a role on special teams. The former Marshall University standout played a significant 163 snaps in the third phase during his healthy 2024 season. Johnson could definitely endear himself to coordinator John "Bones" Fassel at training camp.
The Titans will enter camp with a totally revamped cornerback room. Johnson is yet another offseason addition at the position that Borgonzi knows well. He'll compete for a 53-man roster role.
