Mandatory minicamp allowed the Tennessee Titans to assess every healthy member of their 90-man roster during the two-day practice period. That included veterans from Mike Borgonzi's expensive free agency class that weren't active participants at every voluntary OTA practice. One of the standouts at minicamp was cornerback Alontae Taylor.
The Titans signed Taylor to a three-year, $58 million contract. The former Tennessee Volunteers standout is earning close to $20 million per campaign to be Robert Saleh's No. 1 cornerback. Taylor was a part-time participant at OTAs, adding intrigue to following his performance at minicamp.
Taylor strung together two stellar practices at minicamp, recording multiple pass breakups, per those in attendance. Team reporter Jim Wyatt was especially impressed with Taylor. Wyatt called the cornerback "feisty" and a "stand out," per his observations article.
Titans insiders salivate over CB Alontae Taylor at minicamp
Taylor was the Titans' only big-name signing that didn't possess direct ties to the new coaching staff. As a Winchester, Tennessee native who played college football in Knoxville, the relationship with his hometown state played a role in the Titans' aggressive pursuit of him. Taylor also briefly crossed paths with assistant general manager Dave Ziegler in New Orleans.
Signing Taylor led the Titans' efforts to totally revamp the cornerback room this offseason. Joining him as the opposite boundary starter is fellow free-agent signing Cor'Dale Flott, who also inked a fairly lucrative contract (three years, $45 million). Reserve cornerback Joshua Williams was another outside addition.
The Titans needed to be aggressive at cornerback after trading Jarvis Brownlee and Roger McCreary during the 2025 season. They also released L'Jarius Sneed, who has since re-signed with the Kansas City Chiefs after being among the bigger Titans flops in franchise history.
The Titans paid Taylor handsomely to command the No. 1 cornerback spot in Saleh's attack-style defense. The early returns from minicamp indicated they're getting a feisty cornerback who is prepared to compete with the opposition's top receivers on a weekly basis. Taylor will head into training camp with some momentum at his back.
