The Tennessee Titans finally admitted defeat on their L'Jarius Sneed nightmare earlier this offseason. Sneed failed to meet expectations after being acquired from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick. After two years of underwhelming play, recurring injuries, and even some alleged off-field legal trouble, he was released from his contract in March.

The Titans signed Sneed to a $76 million extension after acquiring him. They believed they were getting a legitimate shutdown cornerback. Sneed came nowhere near replicating his previous form, and is now back on the free-agent market.

Tennessee's Sneed nightmare is over, but his latest activity could further enrage Titans fans. Sneed is visiting the Chiefs in free agency, according to multiple reports. After hoodwinking the Titans, the Chiefs could get him back at a discounted rate.

Former Titans CB L'Jarius Sneed visiting Chiefs in free agency

The Titans moved on from Sneed by making wholesale changes at cornerback this offseason. They signed free agents Alontae Taylor, Cor'Dale Flott, and Joshua Williams to totally revamp the position. Taylor and Flott will serve as the starting boundary cornerbacks in Robert Saleh's defense.

It was former Titans general manager Ran Carthon who put together an aggressive package to acquire Sneed from the Chiefs. He also signed him to the aforementioned lucrative contract extension. Realizing that the Chiefs could now re-acquire Sneed via a veteran minimum contract is infuriating, but such is the bold-sized risk Carthon took.

The Chiefs also made massive changes at cornerback. For salary cap related reasons, they traded Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams, and also saw fellow starter Jaylen Watson sign with the Rams in free agency. Going cheaper at cornerback could create the perfect pathway for Sneed to return to Kansas City, where he was once a fringe All-Pro player.

The Titans have moved past the colossal Sneed mistake. Hopefully Taylor and Flott will be significantly more impactful at cornerback during the 2026 campaign. Carthon and the Titans got ripped off for Sneed, and it may sting even more if he simply re-joins the Chiefs now.
