The Tennessee Titans will enter the market for a new starting quarterback this offseason. Despite general manager Mike Borgonzi saying that Will Levis will receive an opportunity to compete, it would be surprising if that public proclamation actually came to fruition. Instead, the Titans will turn to free agency or the 2025 NFL Draft to find their next quarterback.

The Titans own the No. 1 overall selection in April's draft. Borgonzi and Co. could opt to draft Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders with that pick. If a veteran is preferred, Aaron Rodgers, Derek Carr, and Kirk Cousins are among the experienced signal callers expected to be available this offseason.

Another potential option is Justin Fields. The Titans' new regime has discussed taking a slow-build approach to revamping the roster. If they are first focused on acquiring premium talent at positions of need such as EDGE, wide receiver, and right tackle before committing significant resources to a quarterback, Fields could be considered the ideal short-term bridge option.

Pro Football Focus agrees, recently naming the Titans as a potential landing spot for Fields in free agency.

"With the No. 1 draft pick in hand, new Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi faces a difficult decision regarding the franchise's direction, particularly at quarterback," Mason Cameron recently wrote. "Chad Brinker, Titans president of football operations, said the team “won’t pass on a generational talent”, leading many to believe he’s referring to Colorado’s Travis Hunter. With Will Levis’ struggles, Tennessee will still want to address quarterback, and Fields is a cost-effective option with upside."

Fields was traded by the Chicago Bears to the Pittsburgh Steelers last offseason. The Steelers also signed Russell Wilson in free agency. With Wilson recovering from an injury in training camp, Fields began the season as the starter.

Despite leading the Steelers to a fruitful 5-2 start, head coach Mike Tomlin decided to bench Fields in favor of Wilson. It marked the second time the former No. 11 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft has been benched. Fields hasn't met his pre-draft expectations.

Fields also feels like a peculiar fit for Brian Callahan's offense in Tennessee. While the Titans' coach prefers quarterbacks who rely on rhythm, timing, and anticipation, Fields is more of a run-first QB who struggles to read opposing defenses. The Titans have decisions to make at quarterback this summer. If they choose to delay the inevitable, the veteran dual-threat signal caller could be seen as a short-term fit.
