Titans beat reporter suggests 2025 QB option that actually makes sense

What's next after the Will Levis benching?

With just three games remaining on the 2024 schedule, the Tennessee Titans opted to make a change under center. Head coach Brian Callahan opted to bench second-year quarterback Will Levis and instead roll with veteran Mason Rudolph going forward, as the team looks to improve upon their 3-11 record as best they can.

With Levis on the bench, now, one can only wonder what that means for the young quarterback's future with the Titans. At this point, most would assume the Levis era is over in Tennessee, with Callahan getting his opportunity to choose a quarterback in 2025.

The problem for Callahan, though, is the fact that the upcoming draft class only features one top-tier prospect in Shedeur Sanders, who will likely go no. 1 overall. Tennessee is currently slated to pick no. 6, and if that holds up, they probably won't even have a chance at Miami's Cam Ward.

More Titans news:

There's a portion of the Titans fan base who may want to wait until 2026 to find the franchise quarterback rather than taking a gamble on another rookie not named Sanders, or even Ward. If that's the route they go, then one beat reporter seems to have an idea that could work out well in the meantime.

Longtime Titans beat writer Terry McCormick recently suggested the team pursue a veteran like Derek Carr, should the New Orleans Saints move in a new direction this coming offseason.

Derek Carr and Brian Callahan would make for a logical pairing in 2025

Back in 2018, Callahan spent a year with the Raiders as Carr's quarterbacks coach. So, the two of them have a previous working relationship.

With the Saints having fired Dennis Allen and going into what most believe will be a brand-new era, there's a chance they cut ties with Carr. New Orleans is in a bad spot, cap-wise, and this move wouldn't save them more than roughly $1 million. But, Carr isn't going to be around much longer and will be coming off injury.

So, why would that make sense for the Titans, especially with Carr coming off injury? It's pretty simple, really. Carr would be nothing more than a stopgap. The Titans have a pretty solid roster and are particularly strong, defensively.

With Carr under center, Tennessee could stay competitive if they wanted to. But, they'd also be holding out hope knowing their franchise quarterback would be coming by way of the 2026 NFL Draft. If Carr was healthy for a full season, he'd be far better than Levis or Rudolph. That, we know, for sure.
