When a team gets a new regime in the building, whether it’s a new head coach, general manager or both, players who aren’t considered franchise players could find themselves in roster trouble. Whenever we see new coaches or new members in the front office, players will have to prove that they are worthy of being kept on the roster rather than seeing their replacements acquired.
In the last two offseasons, the Tennessee Titans have brought in Mike Borgonzi as general manager, and now Robert Saleh is running the coaching staff. This past offseason featured a bunch of changes on the roster, with highlighted additions on the defense in free agency. The Titans also brought in young offensive help for Cam Ward in hopes that he can become the true franchise guy.
While the Titans just extended Jeffery Simmons on a new three-year deal, not all current veterans are guaranteed to be on the roster in 2026 or beyond. One of them is running back Tyjae Spears, who Jacob Infante from Pro Football Network listed as facing the most pressure on the Titans heading into this season.
Tyjae Spears facing most pressure out of all Titans players in 2026
"You could choose between Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears, seeing as though both running backs are slated to hit free agency in 2027. That said, the latter is four years younger, making him the more likely extension candidate for the Tennessee Titans. His rushing yardage total has decreased each year he’s been in the NFL; he’ll need a breakout year to prove himself worthy of a sizable pay increase." said Infante.
Injuries have prevented Spears from truly excelling in his role, and now he prepares to enter what could be his final season in Nashville. With the Titans still having Tony Pollard, and now the addition of Nicholas Singleton during the NFL Draft, Spears doesn’t have a great set up to show this new Titans regime that he is worthy of staying around beyond 2026.
If the Titans don’t see a future with Spears after this season, it would be smart to see if they can get back a future Day Three pick during the preseason just to get some kind of value back before he walks for nothing.
