The Tennessee Titans have finally pulled off a major move involving their best player in Jeffery Simmons. According to Ian Rapoport from NFL Network, the Titans and Simmons have agreed to a three-year deal worth $105.8 million with $100 million in guarantees. With this extension, Simmons is set to earn $35 million per season, which will make him the highest paid defensive tackle in NFL history.

While the Titans have had themselves a great offseason, this might be near the top as far as the smartest move they could make moving forward. Coming off a season where he had 11 sacks, the Titans decided to reward Simmons with a new deal and now he is solidified in Robert Saleh’s defense in Nashville.

Jeffery Simmons receives well-deserved extension from Titans

Tennessee has done a lot of work this offseason on both sides of the ball. They have built up the offense around Cam Ward, which included giving him Carnell Tate as his hopeful No. 1 receiver. During free agency, Mike Borgonzi went out and signed a great amount of talent who have played for Saleh either in San Francisco and/or New York.

In addition, the Titans hit a home run when they landed Brian Daboll as their offensive coordinator, giving the offense a well-deserved upgrade. However, this extension for Simmons is one of the biggest splashes to date.

Simmons has not experienced a ton of team success in Tennessee. While he did get to experience playing in an AFC Championship Game in his rookie season, the Titans have spent the last few offseasons rebuilding. With him being one of the best in the game, no one could have blamed him for wanting out of the situation. Instead, Simmons has remained committed to the franchise that drafted him.

This extension takes care of both sides. Simmons gets long-term security with a much higher average in annual salary, and he gets one of the best defensive play callers in Saleh moving forward. As for the Titans, they keep their star player under contract beyond the next two seasons and don’t have to worry about him leaving anytime soon.

This is the kind of move a team makes when an ascending quarterback is on a rookie deal. Having Simmons taken care of when you have Ward for the next three years on a cheap rookie deal is exactly what the Titans needed.

Great job by the Titans for rewarding Simmons, and now Saleh's team can just focus on playing great football in 2026.
