The arrival of first-round pick Carnell Tate in Nashville could be the start of something great for the Tennessee Titans. Not many teams possess the opportunity to have a young quarterback and hopeful No. 1 receiver grow together, but the Titans do.
Drafting Cam Ward first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft was the first step, even if there's some noise after OTAs. He showed flashes in rookie season, but he desperately needed help. The front office surrounded him with better weapons, including getting Tate at No. 4 overall. That selection showed fans just how serious the Titans were about building up the offense considering that Arvell Reese was on the board.
Tate enters a great situation where he has veteran leadership in the wide receiver room, and a great offensive playcaller in Brian Daboll who has had major success with passing attacks as a playcaller throughout his career. Now, Tate will get the chance to succeed sooner than later.
Carnell Tate faces expectations that Titans fans shouldn't be shocked by
Moe Moton from Bleacher Report recently ranked the best 25 moves of this NFL offseason into five different categories. One of the categories was “Rookies Who Will Make A Significant Immediate Impact” and Moton listed Tate as one of those rookies.
"In 2025, the Tennessee Titans watched quarterback Cam Ward struggle throwing to Calvin Ridley and two fourth-round wide receivers, Elic Ayomanor and Chimere Dike. In order to help him make Year 2 strides, they took the first wide receiver in this year's draft at No. 4. Ward praised Carnell Tate's reliable hands and his ability to consistently beat man coverage (h/t Nashville Post's John Glennon). The Ohio State product is an Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate." said Moton.
If the Titans can take a leap forward with Daboll, this offense has the chance to be one of the most overlooked units in the league and Tate shouldn’t be ignored on gameday. Obviously as a rookie, he is bound to have some growing pains. Even some of the best receivers in the league weren’t perfect coming out of college, but they still showed the NFL what they can do. Tate now has that opportunity.
Being a top-five pick comes with pressure. Tate has to show the NFL and Titans fans that the front office made the right choice to select him with a premium selection.
