The hiring of Robert Saleh was already a home run appointment by the Tennessee Titans. However, if there is one thing that Saleh needed to get right, it was his choice on who would be his offensive coordinator. From his time with the New York Jets being their head coach, that was one area that he failed in and he needed to get it right as he began his tenure in Nashville.

The best candidate for that job was Brian Daboll, who had been let go by the New York Giants as their head coach but was still one of the best play callers in the game. However, the Titans were going to have to wait to see if they could get Daboll due to the Buffalo Bills firing Sean McDermott and were going to begin their head coaching search.

Daboll was the offensive coordinator for the Bills from 2018-2021 and he helped Josh Allen and the offense become the powerhouse that it is today. There was a chance he was going to be the next head coach in Buffalo, but the Bills decided to promote within and hire Joe Brady instead. Since that move was made, the Titans managed to appoint Daboll as their OC.

Hiring Daboll was by far a grand slam hire when you look at the pieces the Titans have managed to bring in with an established young quarterback in Cam Ward who can grow with his new play caller.

Titans hiring Brian Daboll pinned as massive move for 2026 offseason

Moe Moton from Bleacher Report recently ranked the 25 best offseason moves and broke them up into five categories. One of those categories was “Coaches and Skill Players Who Will Elevate Offense” and the Titans hiring Daboll was listed.

"Brian Daboll has a history of getting the most out of athletic quarterbacks and his No. 1 receivers. In his offense, Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs made their first Pro Bowls. He helped Malik Nabers become a rookie Pro Bowler and led the New York Giants to the playoffs with Daniel Jones as his quarterback. He's the reason to buy the Tennessee Titans as a surprise playoff team this year." said Moton.

If Daboll can work his magic like he has in the past, there’s no reason why the Titans shouldn’t be a fringe Top 10 overall offense in just Cam Ward’s second season under center.

Not to mention, Daboll just has to focus on the offense, which is what he highly excels in rather than managing an entire game as the head coach. Daboll gets the chance to prove that he can still be a head coach and will do so by helping turn this offense around in Nashville. It’s a perfect pairing because while he gets the chance to prove himself, the offense overall gets the chance to become one of the best in 2026.
