The Tennessee Titans are excited about having rookie wide receiver Carnell Tate. General manager Mike Borgonzi selected Tate with the fourth overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft so that he could be the team's future go-to playmaker. The early indications are that chemistry with quarterback Cam Ward is already present.
Tate was occasionally dominant during offseason workouts (OTAs and minicamp). Ward often looked his way when the offense needed a big-time play in scrimmage. The former Ohio State wideout routinely made difficult catches in tight coverage.
Tate is now tasked with carrying that offseason momentum to training camp, where the practices will be more difficult and competitive. The fanbase is excited about monitoring Tate's progress. So is local beat writer Jim Wyatt, who recently named him the receiver to watch in camp.

"The Titans selected Tate with the fourth overall pick of the NFL Draft, and the rookie generated more buzz than anyone this offseason," Wyatt wrote during his training camp preview for the wide receivers. "In a few early OTAs, Tate made a pair of spectacular one-handed catches, and he looked smooth with just about everything he did. I fully expect Tate to go through some growing pains. Just how quickly – and how much – will Tate be able to help right out of the gate in 2026? Well, we'll get some clues in camp."
The Titans offense would greatly benefit from Tate making an immediate impact. Ward lacked a receiver he could consistently count on as a rookie quarterback last season. This year, that could be Tate, or it could be Wan'Dale Robinson, who the team signed to a four-year contract in free agency worth $70 million.
While Robinson is a reliable weapon who knows Daboll's offense, Tate projects as the big-play threat. Robinson is somewhat limited by his size deficiencies. Meanwhile the sky's the limit for Tate, who runs a nuanced route tree, and can play all three receiver positions as needed.
An excellent rookie campaign for Tate starts with standout performances at training camp. Properly carrying that momentum over to the regular season then becomes the goal. Tate has a real chance of being a legitimate threat in this offense.
