When the Tennessee Titans hired Robert Saleh as their next head coach, they initiated a change in the mindset that the Titans were going to have moving forward. After a major collapse in the Brian Callahan era, the Titans brought in someone who not only has experience as a head coach, but who also gets the best out of all of his players.

If one thing is true about Saleh, it’s that players like him and he knows how to capitalize by getting maximum effort out of them. When he was with the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers, you could easily tell that his side of the ball was never a problem.

Since the Titans decided to go heavy on defense in free agency, it wasn't surprising to see them select wide receiver Carnell Tate with the fourth overall pick to help Cam Ward and the offense. When it came to the free agency signings, a lot of the players that are now in Nashville were familiar with Saleh’s defense including defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers.

John Franklin-Myers signing gets lots of love heading into 2026 season

Moe Moton from Bleacher Report recently ranked the 25 best offseason moves of this past NFL offseason, broken up into five categories. One of those categories was listed as “Best Value Acquisitions" and the Titans signing Franklin-Myers was listed.

"John Franklin-Myers doesn't have any Pro Bowl or All-Pro seasons on his resume, but he's one of the most productive versatile defensive linemen who can play in even and odd-man fronts. The 29-year-old logged at least seven sacks in consecutive seasons. Now, he reunites with defensive-minded head coach Robert Saleh, who was his lead skipper with the New York Jets. Franklin-Myers and Jeffery Simmons will be a game-wrecking interior duo." said Moton.

When Franklin-Myers was with the Jets during Saleh’s head coaching tenure, he was one of the more dominant defensive linemen who didn’t get a lot of attention. He was a constant problem for opposing offenses and he also presents the ability to stay available, having missed no more than two games a season since 2020.

With him coming to Nashville to reunite with Saleh, he will team up with Jeffery Simmons and this duo has the chance to be the best in the trenches across the league. They will be able to create chaos and take pressure off of the secondary. This signing is getting heavily overlooked but opponents will soon realize what they will be going up against when they face the Titans.
