Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi was extremely aggressive to improve his roster this offseason. After the organization endured consecutive 3-14 seasons, patience is running thin in a fanbase that wants to see tangible improvement in 2026. That thought process led to Borgonzi committing more than $300 million to attract talent in free agency.

The Titans also drafted wide receiver Carnell Tate at No. 4 overall. Everything has been done with Cam Ward's sophomore growth in mind. Borgonzi believes the Titans are well-positioned to enjoy significant progress this coming season.

Not every outlet agrees the Titans are guaranteed to improve in 2026, however. ESPN recently released their Football Power Index (FPI) for the upcoming campaign. ESPN uses a specific formula to simulate the season thousands of times, with the results forming their projections.

They have the Titans at 27th among 32 teams, with a negative FPI ranking of -3.9.

Via FPI's calculations, ESPN also released a projected top-10 order for the 2027 NFL Draft. They have the Titans drafting at seventh overall, with a 5.8% chance to land the No. 1 pick. Tennessee's chances at landing a top-five selection is a whopping 35.8%.

The Titans had top-five selections in back-to-back campaigns, taking Ward and Tate. Borgonzi hopes he's improved the roster enough to be significantly more competitive. Titans fans would probably settle for a 7-10 record. Seven victories would be more than their 2024 and 2025 win-total combined.

National outlets are in see-it-to-believe-it mode. The Titans have been extremely disappointing in consecutive seasons. Respect is earned, and the Titans must play competitive football for a complete season before earning trust back.

ESPN's calculated formula projects the Titans to be the sixth-worst team in the league. FPI rankings are updated in-season based on each team's performance on offense, defense and special teams. Hopefully the Titans will see their positioning improve after a red-hot start to the 2026 season.
