If there is one team that took a major step in the right direction as far as roster improvement this offseason, it is the Tennessee Titans. General manager Mike Borgonzi had a lot of to-do tasks once the offseason began, and he delivered big time. First, he needed to bring in a new head coach and his choice was Robert Saleh. That itself was a great hire, and then Saleh brought in a solid coaching staff.
During free agency, the Titans went heavy on defense and brought in a ton of talent that is familiar with Saleh from his time with the 49ers and Jets. They also brought in a security blankey weapon in Wan’Dale Robinson for Cam Ward.
Then in the NFL Draft, the focus shifted just a bit for the Titans as they spent the fourth overall pick on wide receiver Carnell Tate to hopefully evolve as Ward’s No. 1 target. Then they brought in some extra help on the offensive line and they also drafted a sneaky running back in Nicholas Singleton out of Penn State.
Tennessee’s roster looks a lot better than it did a year ago, but it’s still getting disrespected going into the 2026 season.
Tennessee Titans roster faces public disrespect heading into 2026
Sayre Bedinger from NFL Spin Zone recently created a list of the four worst AFC rosters with the offseason coming to an end here soon, and the Titans were listed along with the Browns, Raiders, and Dolphins.
"With Robert Saleh coming in as the head coach, everyone expects the Titans' defense to take a huge leap forward as a whole. They already have one of the premier stars on the interior defensive line in Jeffery Simmons, but they've now paired him up with John Franklin-Myers, who has 14.5 sacks over the last two seasons combined." said Bedinger.
"The biggest issues with this Titans roster are still on that side of the ball. They need Jermaine Johnson to work out as a reclamation project off the edge, but the talent there is thin. We'll see how things work out for 1st-round pick Keldric Faulk and 2025 2nd-rounder Oluwafemi Oladejo, who only played six games last season." Bedinger added.
The Titans went out and brought in a ton of quality veteran help on the defense, as well as brought in young offensive help to grow with Cam Ward, yet the roster is still one of the worst in the AFC? That’s extremely hard to believe.
The defense is already vastly improved, and now it’s really set for the future since Jeffery Simmons signed an extension. With Saleh calling the plays, he will be able to bring that intensity that he is known for.
As for the offense, the hiring of Brian Daboll was a grand slam for the Titans and there is a ton of promise for Ward and the rest of the offense. Will there be growing pains? Of course, any team that goes under a bunch of changes is bound to struggle at some point. But to say that the Titans have one of the worst rosters in the conference is unbelievable.
