The 2026 season could be the start of something great for the Tennessee Titans, as the Robert Saleh era will kick off this coming season against his old team; the New York Jets. The Titans have been a mess since the firing of Mike Vrabel. They went through the Brian Callahan era and it was an utter collapse in Nashville.
Last season was once again an overall bad year for the Titans, but they did see some promise in their young quarterback in Cam Ward. With a new coaching staff including Brian Daboll as the offensive coordinator, Ward should hopefully be the next rising star in the NFL.
Daboll played the biggest role in Josh Allen’s development in 2020, and now Allen is a consistent MVP candidate in Buffalo. Another factor that helped Allen become the player he is today was the acquisition of wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who was traded to the Bills by the Vikings.
For the longest time, the duo of Allen and Diggs was one of the best in the league. All good things eventually come to an end as the Bills ended up trading him to the Houston Texans in 2024.
Diggs spent last season with the New England Patriots and he was Drake Maye’s go-to receiver, finishing with over 1,000 yards and four touchdowns. Diggs was released by the Patriots, and now that he has overcome off-the-field situations, he is looking for his next team.Â
Titans being listed as landing spot for Stefon Diggs is a major mistake
Alex Kay from Bleacher Report recently listed the Titans as an underrated landing spot for Diggs, but the Titans should not be interested in bringing him in. Even with Kay mentioning how Diggs has a track record of helping young quarterbacks develop, Tennessee already has their receiving core that can do that.
"Although there's been speculation that he could end up on an obvious contender, Diggs might be at his best supporting another young quarterback's development and assisting an organization seeking to put a lengthy rebuild behind it. If Diggs joins the Tennessee Titans, who are coming off a 3-14 campaign, it wouldn't be a shock to see them become the latest team in what has become a trend of programs making worst-to-first jumps." said Kay.
When Diggs was in Minnesota and Buffalo, for as great as he was, his tenures ended badly due to alleged character concerns. While he became the No. 1 receiver for the Bills, there were times when Buffalo’s offense took a step back because the offense was solely focused on getting Diggs the ball.
While Diggs was more of a leader for the Patriots, the Titans are not in a position to bring in a veteran wide receiver who has that kind of history where he is looking to be the go-to guy in the offense.
Bringing in Wan’Dale Robinson and Carnell Tate to go with Calvin Ridley, the Titans have their top receiving core for Ward. Even though Diggs would be a clear upgrade on paper, there is so much more that goes into developing a young quarterback. Ward should not be in a position where he feels that he needs to force the ball to Diggs.
