The Tennessee Titans' offseason was exciting. It included everything from a new coaching staff to trades for players at premium positions. However, the upgrades in the passing attack were the most talked-about additions.
Bringing over Brian Daboll as the new OC and reuniting him with Wan'Dale Robinson seemed like a no-brainer. Drafting Carnell Tate with the fourth pick in the 2026 NFL Draft felt like a move that would bring the entire passing game together.
Unfortunately, things haven't clicked as quickly as Titans fans might have hoped. Despite Robert Saleh saying that it would take "time on task" and the team would get better every week, the first game of the season was such a dud that fans were already feeling defeated.
Titans WR Elic Ayomanor is Cam Ward's most reliable target
However, after a very competitive game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2, fans are upset about the loss, which is actually much better than the apathy that had taken over the fan base before that. Even though losing that game was a bitter pill to swallow, it showed that the Titans were getting better and that this was a team that actually did have some fight to them.
While many people would expect that Cam Ward would have to be the engine for that sort of turnaround, the real standout has been Elic Ayomanor. Despite only playing roughly 50% of the snaps, he is the team's leading receiver and he has a strong case to be a starter in Week 3.
He has done that by making his opportunities count. Ayomanor has three receptions this season: one was a 28-yard catch on third down, another was a 41-yard reception where he hurdled a defender, and the final catch was an 11-yard touchdown reception. It is hard to do more with your chances than that. Ward also missed him for a surefire TD in the first half of the Eagles game.
Tate and Ward have had their ups and downs to start the season, but they seem to be getting better with more reps. If the Titans are going to survive the learning curve, they have to lean on the most explosive and effective part of the offense, which is Ayomanor.
If Ayomanor can continue being this caliber of player, there is a real chance the Titans' receiver room will be settled with young, talented players by the end of the year. Ayomanor, Tate, Robinson, and Dike are an average age of 23.3 years old, and they are all under contract for at least two more seasons. That could be huge if this team manages to get things going in the right direction by the end of the campaign.
