The Tennessee Titans entered the offseason arguably needing to acquire multiple pass rushers. New head coach Robert Saleh deserves more talent at EDGE while implementing his aggressive defensive scheme. They partially addressed the position by acquiring Jermaine Johnson II in a deal with the New York Jets.
It's essentially a blank slate for Saleh, Mike Borgonzi, and Gus Bradley at EDGE this offseason. Arden Key and Jihad Ward are pending free agents. The Titans have a league-leading amount of cap space to retool the room. The only semi-notable EDGEs under contract are Johnson, Femi Oladejo and Jaylen Harrell.
One of the top pending free agents at EDGE is Boye Mafe of the Seattle Seahawks. The Titans need to assess all options at the position. With the Seahawks unlikely to re-sign Mafe, he could appear on Borgonzi's shortlist of potential targets.
Seahawks EDGE Boye Mafe could be a Titans NFL Free Agency target
Mafe has reached the conclusion of his four-year rookie contract with the Seahawks. The Super Bowl defending champions are expected to prioritize other in-house free agents like running back Kenneth Walker III and cornerback Josh Jobe. They're also expected to hold talks over potential extensions for Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Devon Witherspoon.
Mafe is expected to reach the open market as a result. He registered a career-low two sacks in 2025. That could make Mafe a bargain in free agency, as he registered a combined 15 sacks in 2023-24, and the advanced metrics indicate he was more impactful in 2025 than the raw numbers indicate.
Mafe notched 44 pressures. His pass-rush-win-rate of 11.3% was third-best among Seahawks EDGEs, according to Pro Football Focus. That would have been the second-most pressures in the Titans' EDGE room last year, and the best overall pass-rush-win-rate. He was stuck in an elite room that helped the Seahawks win Super Bowl 60.
Perhaps the Titans could strike free agency gold by signing Mafe. The advanced stats strongly indicate he's primed for a bounce-back season in 2026 after undergoing a change of scenery this offseason. The Titans just placed a similar bet on Johnson. Borgonzi typically searched for good value signings in free agency last year. This go around, Mafe might be one of the shrewder options available.
