The Tennessee Titans will enter NFL free agency on March 11 needing to improve their pass rush. The EDGE position is arguably the biggest hole on Mike Borgonzi's roster. That won't satisfy defensive-minded head coach Robert Saleh, who needs more talent to build around Jeffery Simmons on the defensive line.
Saleh plans to call defensive plays in Tennessee, but he still hired an experienced defensive coordinator in Gus Bradley. Bradley and Saleh have worked together at a number of different stops. Together, their pairing guarantees a consistent message for the defense.
Bradley's scheme could be key to Borgonzi identifying free-agent pass rushers who fit the new system. Indianapolis Colts EDGE Kwity Paye is on an expiring contract. Bradley's history with Paye could make him the Titans' top target in free agency.
Titans DC Gus Bradley could influence Tennessee to pursue EDGE Kwity Paye in NFL Free Agency
Bradley was hired as the Colts' defensive coordinator in 2022. He inherited Paye, who was drafted 21st overall during the 2021 NFL Draft, as a sophomore. Paye immediately thrived under Bradley's coaching, recording more sacks in his second year (six) than he did as a rookie (four).
Paye really took off in his third season, his second under Bradley. The former Michigan standout registered a career-high 8.5 sacks. In 2024, Paye's final season under Bradley, he notched another eight sacks. The Colts exercised his fifth-year rookie option, keeping him under contract through 2025.
This past season, Paye regressed by only accumulating four sacks. It's undeniable that Paye played his best football under Bradley. The Colts have been preparing for his inevitable departure in free agency by spending recent draft picks on JT Tuimoloau and Laiatu Latu.
The Titans don't have any starting-caliber EDGEs under contract. Sophomore Femi Oladejo, who struggled to stay healthy and productive as a rookie, will be tasked with taking a step forward. Jaylen Harrell closed the season strongly and proved capable of being a rotational rusher. The Titans need starters and proven veterans.
Paye would be the perfect target in free agency. The former first-round pick is familiar with the defensive scheme being installed by Saleh and Bradley. Paye would immediately become the Titans' most talented pass rusher on the roster.
