You can't say the Tennessee Titans aren't doing everything they can to support quarterback Cam Ward. This offseason, they tried to pair him with an experienced offensive play caller, they brought in an offensive line coach who has helped that unit tremendously, and they spent money and premium draft picks on wide receivers.

News came out last week that the Titans were actually sacrificing the greater good to help Ward, when an insider report from Tom Pelissero said that the front office was rebuffing trade offers for running back Tony Pollard. The thought process was that Pollard was a locker room leader and the team's best runner, and they didn't want to take that away.

That was before the team's blowout loss against the Houston Texans, and it may be time to reevaluate. That isn't to say that the team needs to rethink everything because of one bad loss, but how much of an impact is Pollard having on this roster when the team never plays with a lead and can't give him 20-25 carries and let him wear out a defense?

Could the Titans consider trading RB Tony Pollard if they fall to 0-6?

Maybe Pollard would be a bigger threat in an offense that was winning games and playing with a lead. But right now on this roster, he is just another body, and he is someone that they aren't committed to past this year because he is 29 and in the final year of his contract.

Teams like the Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, and Denver Broncos are all in a position to make the postseason and could use more running back juice. As for what the price tag is for a running back like that, it is hard to say. It would be a mid- to late-Day 3 pick, and how much will depend on how many teams want Pollard.

The best reasonable hope should be a fifth-round pick, and while that might not sound like much, Titans fans know that isn't true. This year alone, the Titans drafted Fernando Carmona with a fifth-round pick, and Borgonzi has had success with Day 3 picks as the team's GM, with other hits like Elic Ayomanor, Marcus Harris, and Chimere Dike.

At this point, are 12 more games of Pollard worth more than adding another starter or role player next season? Is he tangibly and intangibly that much better for Ward than a committee of running backs led by Tyjae Spears, Julius Chestnut, and Nick Singleton? That is the question the Borgonzi needs to ask himself the next time a team calls asking for help at running back.
