The Tennessee Titans played their most embarrassing game of the 2026 season to date on Sunday. They were defeated 26-3 in Week 5 by their division rival Houston Texans. The 0-5 Titans are currently slotted into the No. 1 overall selection in the real-time draft order as a result.

Three winless teams remain following Week 5. The Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers match the Titans' 0-5 record. The previously winless Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers won this week.

The Titans currently have the tiebreaker advantage for the No. 1 overall pick due to strength of schedule, per Tankathon. The Titans' SOS is 51.8%. The Chargers' SOS is 55.6%, and the Dolphins are at 61%. The tiebreaker always goes to the lower strength of schedule.

Titans slotted into No. 1 pick in 2027 NFL Draft after Week 5 humiliation

The Titans clearly look like legitimate contenders for the No. 1 overall selection. They are that terrible. They weren't officially tracking for that position until the Week 5 defeat though.

How the Titans would approach the No. 1 overall selection in the 2027 NFL Draft is difficult to sort through. Would they select a quarterback and admit defeat on struggling sophomore Cam Ward? The upcoming class appears to lack a clear-cut QB worth taking at No. 1.

Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is clearly the best overall prospect in the class. Would the Titans take another receiver after drafting one fourth overall this past offseason? The optics and asset management wouldn't be ideal. Smith is probably too good to pass-up the opportunity to draft him though.

Would this Titans regime surviving getting the No. 1 overall pick?

Would general manager Mike Borgonzi survive a season in which the Titans clinched the No. 1 overall selection? His fate may ultimately be tied to Ward. Borgonzi is at worst a decent evaluator based on his first two draft classes, but it's also fair to criticize the Titans haven't gotten better on his watch.

The coaching staff probably won't go one-and-done considering how much turnover the organization has experienced in recent years. Fans are wondering about Brian Daboll's fate though. The offensive coordinator is currently overseeing a unit scoring a league-low 11.6 points per game.

Week 5 represented another low in a three-year stretch that has produced nothing but latest rock-bottom lows. The Titans may confront a fate where they possess the No. 1 overall selection in the NFL Draft for the second time in three years. That should make everyone in high-ranking positions within the organization uneasy.
