Whether you agree with the price tag or not, when the Tennessee Titans signed Dan Moore to a massive contract, they were doing what they had to do to fix the offensive tackle problem that has plagued them for the last five years.
The Titans could now search for depth tackles with their bookend starters under contract for the foreseeable future. GM Mike Borgonzi should ensure he protects the next quarterback from a scenario where Nicholas Petit-Frere has to play. The best way to do that is to attempt to find a quality swing tackle behind Moore and J.C. Latham.
That is why the Titans should still consider pursuing former first-round tackle Jedrick Wills in free agency.
Despite teams rushing to sign offensive linemen, Wills is still on the market. The simple explanation is that Willis hasn't been able to stay on the field for the last two years. Different people argue whether that is a toughness or attitude issue, but either way, he would benefit from finishing a season with a clean bill of health.
Speaking of "bills," Titans offensive line coach Bill Callahan was his position coach with the Browns, and Wills played his best football while under Callahan's tutelage. Both parties would know exactly what they were getting into if they could reach a deal, which is important when you get to this wave of free agency.
Wills has played exclusively on the left side in the NFL, but he was a two-year starter at right tackle in college for Alabama. Considering his background and his experience with Callahan's coaching style, it is reasonable to assume that he could come in and quickly adapt to left tackle and right tackle for the Titans as their top swing tackle off the bench.
Wills hasn't met expectations, but he isn't even 26 years old yet. The Titans could sign him to a healthy two-year deal, and he could still get a big contract in free agency if he rehabilitates his reputation in Tennessee.
Like his draft classmate Mekhi Becton, this is a chance for a very talented offensive lineman to work with an elite offensive line coach in pursuit of turning the narrative of their career around. At this point, it all comes down to how much value a potential deal has for both sides, but on paper, it seems like the perfect career move for Wills and a smart addition for the Titans.
