The Tennessee Titans have been shorthanded at cornerback in recent weeks. They made the decision to release Samuel Womack III from the roster. That same week, boundary starter Jalyn Armour-Davis went down with an Achilles injury that has sidelined him for two straight games.
The Titans have shuffled personnel in response. Nickel corner Marcus Harris is playing outside. Safety Kevin Winston Jr. is playing nickel to make up the numbers. Both rookies are currently thriving.
General manager Mike Borgonzi recently added two cornerbacks to the 53-man roster, but neither has been trusted to play defensive snaps yet. One was the lesser-known Micah Robinson, and the other is 2022 first-round draft bust Kaiir Elam. The Titans should give Elam an opportunity to play before the 2025 season ends.
Titans CB Kaiir Elam should receive opportunity to play in final four games
Elam was drafted by the Buffalo Bills at 23rd overall during the 2022 NFL Draft. The former Florida Gators standout never found his footing in Buffalo. After three uneven seasons that were derailed by injuries and inconsistent play, the final straw was a lackluster performance against the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2024 AFC Championship Game. The Bills traded Elam to the Dallas Cowboys this past offseason.
Elam was given an opportunity for a second chance with the Cowboys, but he failed to maximize his reps. Pro Football Focus credited Elam with allowing 24 receptions for 314 yards and three touchdowns. He committed three penalties and allowed a passer rating of 112.6.
The Cowboys waived Elam in November. Four days later, he signed with the Titans. The rebuilding Titans are in fact-finding mode as they prepare to put this wasted campaign behind him. Borgonzi is searching for future solutions as he prepares to drastically overhaul portions of the roster this coming season. There isn't much remaining hope for Elam to salvage his career, but Dennard Wilson should roll the dice on his sliver of leftover potential.
