All indications are that the Tennessee Titans have made their mind up about what they are going to do with the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The only question is whether Warren Moon will let Cam Ward wear No. 1 as a rookie (kidding).
Assuming they plan to move on from Will Levis this offseason, the Titans do not have a bridge starter in place. Indications are if they draft Ward, they'll quickly insert him into the starting lineup. That's despite Mike Borgonzi and Chad Brinker having seen it done differently for Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, and Jordan Love at their previous stops.
With Ward expected to be thrown into the fire, the Titans will strategically prepare for his debut throughout training camp and the preseason. They are throwing another interesting twist at Ward after they announced that they will be traveling twice in the preseason for back-to-back joint practices.
Jim Wyatt points out in the team's announcement that this means the Titans will be traveling for at least nine consecutive days in August. Training camp is usually an NFL player's least favorite time of year, and this makes a tough task even more difficult. It could help Ward quickly acclimate.
There is a silver lining to this news, though. We don't know the preseason schedule yet, but whatever teams the Titans practice against, they will get an in-depth look at those opposing rosters. There have been times in the past where joint practices against other teams have led to roster movement, but that isn't the only way that the Titans could steal a player or two off of those opposing teams.
Since the Titans possess the top priority on the waiver wire, they will be keeping a very close eye on those teams' roster-bubble players. Claiming one or more of those players would allow the Titans to add depth where they desperately need it.
Considering the front office's draft and develop strategy, the waiver wire additions might be the most aggressive way that we see them acquire more talent this offseason outside of the draft.
