After last season, the Tennessee Titans were surely going to make a change at quarterback. That change would include giving quarterback Will Levis some competition going forward with the idea that he'd likely end up being the backup.
All indications were that the team would keep Levis on the roster.
And then, this offseason, Tennessee went out and made one minor signing that might have given off a different impression. When the Titans signed quarterback Brandon Allen, that may have signaled the beginning of the end for Levis. Knowing the Titans were likely going to draft a quarterback this year, that would put three quarterbacks on the roster with Allen now signed.
As it turns out, those hunches were right. According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Titans appear ready to try and trade Levis:
"The Titans would like to transition," she wrote in a recent post on her socials.
The Titans appear ready to try and trade Will Levis
"I was just told these two quarterback names came up in recent preliminary* trade inquiries or internal discussions, per a league source: Kirk Cousins and Will Levis," Anderson also wrote.
The Cousins news isn't all that surprising. Obviously, the Atlanta Falcons need to figure out how to make something happen there. But, the Titans having a desire to move on from Levis is notable.
It isn't all that shocking, but it's the first time we've heard any report like this. So far, this offseason, most of the Levis news and rumors have revolved around the team keeping him on board and giving him competition.
That "competition" speak, though, is absolutely code for the Titans wanting to find a new starter. We know that much to be true. Tennessee isn't going to go into the 2025 season with Levis under center again. That would be a complete and total disaster.
So, all things considered, this makes a lot of sense.
Anderson did wonder what the market would be like for Levis, though, and she's not wrong. There might not be much, if any, market for Levis.
If the Titans found a team willing to throw a sixth-round pick at them in exchange for the former second-round pick, maybe that winds up being the play. But, anything more than that would feel like an overpay for the prospective team.
One thing we might actually know for sure, now: it appears as though it's only a matter of time before the Levis era is officially done in Tennessee.
