The Tennessee Titans have committed a league-leading $294 million throughout NFL free agency thus far. That includes an NFL-high $130 million in guaranteed money. General manager Mike Borgonzi spent the first wave of the player acquisition period improving the floor of a roster that went 3-14 (for a second straight campaign) in 2025.
The Titans still possess enough financial flexibility to make additional second-wave moves in free agency, but Borgonzi's next big decision will probably be made during the 2026 NFL Draft. The Titans own the No. 4 overall selection. It represents another opportunity to add a blue-chip prospect to a rebuilding roster.
The Titans have seemingly improved their roster weaknesses. There's always additional room for upgrades, but it's conceivable to believe Borgonzi won't be forced into a needs-based decision at No. 4 overall. With versatility at their disposal, it's becoming abundantly clear that the Titans could select Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love.
Titans could draft Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love at No. 4 overall
The Titans entered the offseason arguably needing to upgrade at running back. Both Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears are in contract years and neither player is necessarily expected to return to Tennessee in 2027. The aging Pollard has a decent amount of tread on his tires and 2025 wasn't his most efficient campaign, despite him still managing to rush for his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard campaign, thanks to a late-season surge.
The fact that the Titans haven't added a running back via free agency may indicate Borgonzi is planning to do so via the NFL Draft. It's slightly difficult to believe new head coach Robert Saleh would be content with entering the season with Pollard and Spears at running back. They're an acceptable, league-average duo, but declining an opportunity to upgrade this offseason when the Titans have so many resources would feel like a missed opportunity.
The Titans will have options at No. 4 overall. At least one pass rusher between David Bailey, Arvell Reese, and Rueben Bain Jr. is guaranteed to be available. Safety Caleb Downs and linebacker Sonny Styles represent alternative options. Downs, Styles, and Love would all be the subject of positional value debate questions. Those are brought up frequently when discussing Love. They are equally relevant for Downs and Styles.
The Titans are building around franchise quarterback Cam Ward. Every non-Love prospect just mentioned plays on defense. If they truly prefer to utilize the fourth selection to maximize Ward's development, Love is beginning to emerge as the no-brainer position at No. 4.
