Titans offensive lineman facing unique challenge nobody is talking about

Another year, another challenge...

The Tennessee Titans came into the 2025 offseason with a litany of issues to fix, especially personnel wise, and there are some position groups that still look rough heading into training camp. For all the weaknesses on their roster, they are hoping, if not legitimately expecting, the offensive line to improve.

The Titans made some big moves up front, bringing in Dan Moore to be their next franchise left tackle, and guard Kevin Zeitler, which is looking more and more like a genius move by the day. This also means that JC Latham will move to his natural right tackle position, which is expected to upgrade another position up front.

Despite the improvements, at least on paper, it is still too optimistic to say with conviction that this group will actually be great. There are questions about Moore's progression, whose contract is widely regarded as a massive overpay, and we do not know how Lloyd Cushenberry will come back from his season-ending Achilles injury.

Aside from that, one other aspect that nobody is talking about is whether or not Peter Skoronski will be able to build off of a strong finish last year. On the surface, it does not seem like there should be concern over him, but when you look at the situation around him, it is understandable why some might be worried.

Let's get one thing straight-- Skoronski controls his own destiny, and his success or failure will ultimately be defined by his individual performance. That being said, you cannot do everything alone, especially on the offensive line, where communication is so important.

And what Skoronski is having to deal with is not easy.

He played alongside Andre Dillard in his first year. Dillard was terrible and obviously wasn't going to be a long-term partner for Skoronski. Plus, with the appendectomy he suffered early on in 2023, it was understandable why he had some low points, so the hope was that he would put it all together in 2024.

Skoronski began 2024 slowly, but he got steadily better as the season went on and looked like a legitimate starting guard as the year went on. Part of that surely had to do with having a much better partner in Latham, and the two looked like they could be a difference-making duo for the foreseeable future.

Now, Skoronski will have to gain chemistry with yet another left tackle in Dan Moore, who is completely new to the team. Obviously, if they can't figure it out as we get deeper into the 2025 season, then there is a real problem, but there are fair reasons to think it might take them time.

They will have to learn to communicate and know each other's tendencies, and that includes things such as coordinated run blocking and picking up stunts and blitzes. And everyone knows that the only way to truly hammer that stuff out is to play games in the regular season, so results could reflect that early on.

When you think of Skoronski's slower starts in 2023 and 2024, most of that is surely due to him coming into his own as a player, as well as recovering from the appendectomy in 2023. But every single detail matters, and some of it seems like it is due to him gaining chemistry with a new left tackle.

Skoronski is entering his third professional season, one that could help define his future with the Titans. New GM Mike Borgonzi will be tasked with making a decision on his fifth-year option next offseason. Guards often see that option declined, but the wage scale at offensive tackle bloats the price of the option, but Skoronski's form will help dictate talks.

The goal is for Skoronski to regain his form and sustain it as the 2025 season progresses forward. Assuming Moore is going to be a long-term option at left tackle, per his contract, Skoronski must find chemistry with his third left tackle partner in as many seasons.

Hopefully the Titans have finally found Skoronski a partner he can get used to.
