The Tennessee Titans may not be the most desirable spot for veteran free agents right now due to their commitment to developing No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward, but there was still a strong chance that veteran free agent guard Kevin Zeitler could come back to lock in their starting offensive line. Even in his advanced age, Zeitler remains one of the better players in the league at his position.
A reunion could come to fruition, as the Titans would do well to give this offensive line the veteran presence it needs. However, the two appear unlikely to get back together, which could be enough for a contender to ruin any chance of Zeitler coming back.
ESPN's Matt Bowen listed the San Francisco 49ers as a great fit for Zeitler, who remains unsigned as OTAs are starting to get ramped up across the NFL. If both teams give him a similar contract in terms of money, Zeitler may be foolish not to listen to San Francisco's overtures.
This comes after some scuttlebutt from Titans beat reporters made it sound like Tennessee and Zeitler are fairly far apart on any sort of reunion. Considering how Zeitler is likely going to be chasing a championship, his Titans tenure may only last one season.
ESPN believes former Titans guard Kevin Zeitler can join 49ers
Zeitler was ranked as the 13th-best guard in the league by Pro Football Focus last season, showing that he should be in line for another strong 2026 season despite the fact that he is 36 years old this year. Zeitler was ranked as the ninth-best pass blocking guard in the sport, which could be even more appealing for Ward and Brian Daboll.
Zeitler would immediately start at guard in San Francisco. Zeitler is in the tier of player that would warrant a win-now team to make a move that demotes a younger player in favor of him instead of focusing on long-term development. San Francisco is a ready-made winning roster, unlike Tennessee.
All signs point to Cordell Volson as the underwhelming starter and a pair of fifth-round draft picks in Jackson Slater and rookie Fernando Carmona getting snaps at right guard to push him. That's not ideal for a young quarterback like Ward, especially when paired with a fairly green center in Austin Schlottmann and a tackle in JC Latham, who many are begging to finally step up.
