The Tennessee Titans made it a priority to help sophomore quarterback Cam Ward at the 2026 NFL Draft. The Titans added superstar Carnell Tate, a weapon in the backfield with Nicholas Singleton, and a couple offensive linemen. That wasn't the end of it though, as Mike Borgonzi's front office immediately went to the undrafted bunch and got to work.
The most intriguing signing was John Carroll University standout receiver Tyren Montgomery. His story is like no other. He graduated high school in 2019 and went straight to LSU to walk-on for basketball. Basketball at LSU didn't work out, so he headed home and began doing football workouts during the pandemic. After catching some passes from his brother, Montgomery realized his potential in football and headed off to Nicholls State in 2022 as a walk on. After limited playing time at Nicholls, he got a phone call from JCU, and the rest is history.
Tyren Montgomery is low risk, high reward UDFA for the Tennessee Titans
Montgomery absolutely dominated in 2025, totaling 1,394 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. His catch radius alone is enough to deem him worthy of a UDFA contract. Whether it was one handed it catches or 50/50 balls in the end zone, it didn't really matter. Montgomery caught every ball thrown his way. His past experience in basketball also shows in his releases, as he excels in faking his way out of press coverage.
The Senior Bowl performance completely changed the trajectory of Montgomery's future. The 5-foot-11 prospect instantly put players and coaches on notice. In one-on-one drills, Montgomery had a spectacular contested catch against Miami Dolphins first-round pick Chris Johnson. Later that day, he displayed his route-running craft by beating New York Giants second-round pick Colton Hood on a savvy curl route.
Montgomery would be a 25-year-old rookie, and he has only played football for roughly three years. The competition level at a D-III school is enough to question his true pro-level capabilities, but the Senior Bowl performance could possibly shut down those arguments. Montgomery actually making the Titans roster is a whole other topic, but it's at least exciting to see the Titans taking a chance on a player with big upside.
