The Tennessee Titans stayed aggressive during the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft. After trading up for Keldric Faulk at No. 31 overall, Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi wasn't scheduled to make a second-round choice. Borgonzi rectified that by using his early third-round to move back into Round 2 to take former Texas linebacker Anthony Hill Jr.
Titans head coach Robert Saleh had his fingerprints all over the Hill selection. The ex Longhorns standout projects as a made-to-fit player in the defensive scheme. Hill's athleticism and range should thrive in Saleh's attack-based system.
For Titans fans who are unfamiliar with Hill's skill set, we reached out to a college expert to provide more insight. Titan Sized spoke with Matt Wilson of Hook'em Headlines, who covered Hill extensively throughout his career in Austin. Wilson had the following to say about Hill.
NFL Draft: Texas expert says Tennessee Titans are getting 'heart and soul' defender who should make an immediate impact
"Anthony Hill Jr. was the heart and soul of Texas' defense over the past two seasons, and his above-average athleticism and processing skills make him extremely attractive for NFL defensive coordinators," Wilson said. "Hill Jr. is a true 3-down LB who should make an immediate impact as a rookie at either MIKE or WILL at the next level."
In this case, Hill's processing abilities appealed to Saleh and defensive coordinator Gus Bradley. It's hard to think of a better coaching combination to mold Hill's natural range and athleticism into tangible NFL production. The landing spot was perfect for a heart-and-soul defender.
Hill possesses a fairly straightforward pathway to instant snaps in Tennessee's defense. Saleh often fields three linebackers in base personnel looks and the Titans were thin on the depth chart heading into the NFL Draft. Cedric Gray is a budding star, but Cody Barton and James Williams are questionable fits.
Hill possesses the traits Saleh craves in linebackers. He's long, rangy, athletic, and instinctual. Wilson of Hook'Em Headlines paints a perfect picture of why the Titans decided to get aggressive in pursuit of Hill.
