Mike Borgonzi has the chance to take the Tennessee Titans in a direction that could help them become competitive once again. It wasn’t too long ago that the Titans had Mike Vrabel in the building, and it was a huge mistake that he was let go in the first place. Now, Borgonzi, who was just hired last offseason, is tasked to find the team’s next head coach and start building up the roster.

The Titans have interviewed multiple candidates, including Kevin Stefanski, Mike McCarthy, and Jeff Hafley. Now, they are looking to start their second-round interviews which includes Hafley who is currently the defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers, per Ian Rapoport.

For the past two seasons, Hafley has been in Green Bay and has delivered a solid defense up in the NFC North. Now granted, the Packers trading for Micah Parsons certainly helped but nonetheless, Hafley has become a great coordinator of the game. However, there is a bit of a risk with going with someone like Hafley.

DC Jeff Hafley is a big risk-big reward option for Titans

As solid as Hafley has been for Green Bay, he has limited NFL coaching experience. With what the Titans just recently went through with Brian Callahan, Borgonzi may want to strongly consider whether bringing in a first-time head coach is the smart move.

Hafley has a very good chance at becoming a head coach in this cycle. Infact, Tom Pelissero reported that he has become the frontrunner for the Miami Dolphins’ open vacancy. With the Dolphins recently hiring Jon-Eric Sullivan from the Packers, it would make sense why Hafley would land with Miami. However, nothing is official.

If the Titans are serious about getting Hafley and making him their leader, then they need to make sure that they have done everything they can to know that he is the best head coach option for this Titans team. This rebuild won’t be easy, and Borgonzi needs to know that whoever he brings in will be the best candidate possible.
