When the Tennessee Titans made the choice to hire Mike Borgonzi as their next general manager in 2025, it was the start of something new in Nashville. Going from Jon Robinson to Ran Carthon, the organization was in shambles at one point.
Not to mention, the Titans had also moved on from Mike Vrabel, brought in Brian Callahan and then had Mike McCoy take over last season once Callahan was fired. The Titans seemed to lack stability, but with Borgonzi coming in and showing Callahan the door, it was the right move as the Titans needed to get back on track.
Coming into this offseason, Borgonzi had a lot of questions to figure out but he also had a ton of resources. He was going to be able to pick out the coach, have a ton of money to spend in free agency, and also have solid draft picks in which he didn’t need to use any of them on a quarterback.
Tennessee Titans showing major improvement after successful offseason
FanSided’s Cody Williams recently gave each team an updated report card grade for their offseason and the Titans earned a respectable B grade. Williams highlighted the signing of John Franklin-Myers as their best move, and the contract that was given to Wan’Dale Robinson as the worst move.
"Just blindly putting the number of veteran defensive players who the Tennessee Titans added, someone could probably guess that Robert Saleh was involved. It's clear they're trying to raise the floor in Nashville while also getting some help along the way for young Cam Ward. Now, the Wan'Dale Robinson contract is absolutely egregious for a player who simply isn't a WR1 in this league. That being said, the Titans certainly succeeded in taking a step forward this offseason." said Williams.
Tennessee’s defense will look very different under Robert Saleh, and that’s a great thing. They needed a revamp and those defenders play hard for Saleh and it showed in both San Francisco and New York.
The signing of Wan'Dale Robinson definitely turned some heads because of the four-year, $70 million contract he got, but when you acquire a player who has improved every single season while reuniting him with Brian Daboll, that is a risk worth taking.
While the contract may feel uneasy, the Titans give Cam Ward a reliable No. 2 and they still managed to draft Carnell Tate with the fourth overall pick in the draft that gives Ward his No. 1 that he can grow with.
Tennessee had a great offseason, no one can deny that. They got better on the coaching staff and the roster, and it’s all because of what Mike Borgonzi has started to build.
