The Tennessee Titans have their quarterback of the future in Cam Ward, and the team is aggressively surrounding him with talent to give him the best chance to immediately succeed. However, behind him, there is a looming battle for the other quarterback spots.

After the season, there was a clear need to improve the backup quarterback position if this team was serious about winning games in 2026. That is why it wasn't a surprise when the team signed Mitch Trubisky, an experienced veteran who has worked well with new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.

That seemed to lock in the quarterback position for a while, but then the team just signed another quarterback that fans in Tennessee are very familiar with: Hendon Hooker.

Tennessee Titans' QB3 battle will draw more attention than it deserves

At the time, signing Hooker signaled an impending Will Levis trade because the Titans would need another guy in the room during training camp. However, a new report suggests that this could be very wrong.

In no uncertain terms, Easton Freeze is reporting that he believes Levis is going to get a second chance with the team and that he will be on this roster going forward:

" I believe this team won’t move him (Levis) unless an offer of legitimate value is on the table. And I don’t see how that comes any earlier than the end of the preseason in the case that he lights it up in August.

The Titans could even roll into his final year on his rookie contract with him as their backup. I think Daboll’s presence and reputation for working with QBs is doing a lot of the heavy lifting here. So get ready to see Levis around for a little while longer than you may have thought."

Trubisky is on a two-year deal with more than half of the money guaranteed, meaning that cutting him would actually cost the Titans money. So if the Titans really do intend on keeping Levis, it will almost certainly be as their third quarterback.

With Trubisky entrenched as the QB2, Levis is going to have to prove that he is worth that 53rd roster spot, which means that he won't just be competing against Hooker, but he will be competing to prove that he is more valuable than everyone else competing for that final spot.

Roster building is tricky. No one in the fan base is sold that either Levis or Hooker should be on the roster to start the season. However, that report indicates they are competing to be QB3. Fans who were debating this quarterback battle years ago are going to get to see these two compete for an entire offseason with their careers on the line. That is as exciting as a third-string quarterback battle can get!
