The Tennessee Titans will sort through backup quarterback Will Levis' future this offseason. The Titans essentially made the decision to move on from Levis when they drafted Cam Ward at No. 1 overall last season. Ward is the future of the franchise.
Now, general manager Mike Borgonzi has made another move at quarterback that seals Levis' fate. The Titans intend to sign veteran backup Mitchell Trubisky to a two-year contract, according to various reports. Trubisky will be Ward's backup quarterback in 2026. Levis is officially on the trade block.

Levis spent the entire 2025 campaign on season-ending IR. He elected to undergo offseason surgery on a previously injured shoulder. Ward spent his rookie season being backed up by Brandon Allen. Allen is a free agent who won't return to the Titans in 2026.
Trubisky spent the previous two campaigns playing for the Buffalo Bills. He appeared in 13 combined games across 2024-25, completing more than 70 percent of his passes and throwing for six touchdowns and zero interceptions. Trubisky has established himself as one of the better backup quarterbacks in the league.
Trubisky does possess a notable connection to the Titans' new coaching staff. Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll held the same role with the Bills in 2021 when Trubisky was their backup quarterback. The former No. 2 overall pick appeared in six games for Buffalo that season, but only attempted eight passes. Still, he spent all season being coached by Daboll.
Ward is recovering from a shoulder injury suffered in the Week 18 regular-season finale. The expectation is that Ward will be healthy to resume throwing later this offseason, prior to training camp. Signing Trubisky makes Levis expendable this offseason. Expect Levis to be traded during the summer.
