It may not feel like it, but free agency is still going on in the NFL. The Tennessee Titans attacked the process early on during the first wave of the player acquisition cycle. They have brought in a lot of help on defense already, while also adding some offensive pieces to help Cam Ward and Brian Daboll. Unlike many other teams, the Titans are one of the rare organizations that had the chance to spend big despite having a franchise quarterback on a rookie deal.
There is still room for the Titans to make more free agency signings before and after the NFL Draft, as they currently have $64 million in cap space, per Spotrac. They have already added a great amount of talent, but there are still plenty of available players who are looking for a new team.
One current free agent is linebacker Bobby Okereke, who was recently listed as a perfect free agent signing for the Titans by Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report.
"Bobby Okereke was far more productive for the New York Giants a year ago, topping 140 stops for the third time in four seasons. He's also not a liability in coverage, allowing a passer rating against less than 85 each of the past two seasons. The 29-year-old would be a stabilizing force on a Titans defense that will feature a ton of new faces in 2026. And the Titans have the cash to easily absorb his contract without jeopardizing their long-term financial flexibility." said Davenport.
Bobby Okereke would give Titans much-needed veteran presence in middle of defense
The seven year veteran has been with the Colts and the Giants in his career, where he has 805 total tackles. In four out of his seven seasons, Okereke has over 100 total tackles which included 143 this past season with the Giants. He previously played for various members of the Titans' coaching staff, including Daboll, DC Gus Bradley, and LB coach Dave Borgonzi.
Another great factor about Okereke is that he’s only had two seasons where he didn’t play a full season (2020 & 2024). Sometimes the best ability is availability. Not many players in the league have shown that.
In addition, Okereke would get the chance to be in a phenomenal defensive scheme under Robert Saleh. Okereke is still in his prime and because of the cap space that the Titans have, this would be a perfect signing to add solid linebacker play in Nashville.
