Even though free agency has never been the main reason why teams win a Super Bowl, it can fix a lot of problems for a roster. Quite frankly, it’s an exciting time for fans to see their favorite teams make free agent signings. For the Tennessee Titans, fans have had the chance to watch Mike Borgonzi bring in a ton of talent on both sides of the ball.

The Titans don’t just have a new coaching regime, they have one of the best staffs in the league with Robert Saleh leading the way with Brian Daboll and Gus Bradley. They have brought in a huge free agency class where it features immediate help on both sides of the ball, but two of their signings are being looked at as overpays.

Gary Davenport from Bleacher Report listed the signings of CB Alontae Taylor and WR Wan'Dale Robinson as overpays from the early stages of free agency.

Titans must prove bold take wrong about two big free agency signings

The Titans gave Taylor a three-year deal worth $58 million, with $42 million guaranteed. That is a hefty investment for a player who had some ups and downs in New Orleans. Yes, the Titans needed to revamp their secondary. Taylor has been solid for the Saints at times, but the Titans are taking a little bit of a risk.

Taylor and fellow free-agent signing Cor'Dale Flott should bring some stability to the Titans' defense on the outside.

As for Robinson, this was a no-brainer move for the Titans to make. He reunites with Daboll who was his head coach with the Giants. Tennessee gave him a four-year deal worth $70 million and he gets $38 million guaranteed.

Robinson became a go-to receiver for Jaxson Dart once Malik Nabers tore his ACL and because of his steady play, he now gets paid big time from the Titans to help Cam Ward take the next step forward in his career. Robinson is a great down-the-field route runner who can open up opportunities for his teammates.

Sure, paying Robinson this kind of money can be a risk but at the same time, it was a necessary move to make sure that Daboll had weapons to utilize for Ward.

Both of these free agency signings were necessary and they have a higher chance to succeed rather than fail as long as both players stay healthy. If they both play well in their first season in Nashville, then the contracts won’t be closely examined then.
