The Tennessee Titans loaded up in free agency this offseason. One of their free agent additions was former Giants wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson and the hope is that he can be a huge help for Cam Ward in his sophomore season in the pros.
While Titans fans hope that's what they see from Robinson, the reality is that, for the contract he signed, he could end up being a bust. That's exactly what Matt Verderame of SI predicted, as he wrote about five likely free agents from this latest cycle who could end up being busts for their new teams.
"...Robinson projects as more of a secondary weapon and not someone who should be paid toward the top of the market. At four years and $70 million (up to $78 million), Robinson is being slotted in as a No. 2 receiver. Fair enough. The problem is that Robinson has produced a 700-yard season only once. In 2025, Robinson went for 1,014 yards but did so on a whopping 140 targets. His 42.9% success rate ranked 125th of 142 qualified pass catchers, including receivers, tight ends and backs.
If Tennessee can add a legitimate No. 1 option in the draft, such as Carnell Tate, and take some of the opponent’s attention away from Robinson, it could work out all right. But if Robinson is the main component of the passing attack, it’s a problem."
New Titans WR Wan'Dale Robinson listed as 'likely bust'
Verderame does bring up some good points with his assessment of Robinson. The former Nebraska and Kentucky standout might have had over 1,000 yards receiving last year but it was only the first time he had done so. Part of that could be that the Giants' quarterback situation wasn't great during Robinson's first three years in New York, but it's still worth mentioning.
Titans fans are hoping that Robinson is worth the four-year, $70 million deal he signed in free agency but it's not hard to see why he'd be included on a list like this. He's had just one truly memorable season and the Titans just paid him a lot of money. But, as Verderame said, if the Titans add someone like Carnell Tate or another great No. 1 wide receiver option, this move could end up looking brilliant.
Robinson is a unique player and, considering his history with Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll from their time in New York together, it's not a wild thought that he could be an explosive playmaker in this offense. Ward will need guys he can depend on and let's keep our fingers crossed that Wan'Dale Robinson ends up being one of those players for the young quarterback.
