Tennessee Titans fans aren't particularly excited about how their head coaching search is going so far. Initial candidates include Matt Nagy, Steve Spagnuolo, and Vance Joseph. Spagnuolo owns an 11-41 record as a head coach, and Joseph went 11-21 in Denver.
The most intriguing candidate may be Kevin Stefanski, who is scheduled to interview in-person with the Titans this weekend. Titans fans are hoping to hear John Harbaugh will be a candidate following his shocking dismissal. Instead of Harbaugh, another candidate was revealed in truly shocking fashion.
The Titans will interview former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett on Friday, according to multiple reports. Garrett has not been a head coach since 2019 and last worked on the sidelines in 2021 as the New York Giants' offensive coordinator. Titans fans are stunned beyond belief with this interview request.
Titans' coaching search veers off course with stunning Jason Garrett interview
Garrett's tenure in Dallas was reasonably successful. From 2011-19, he compiled an 85-67 record and captured three NFC East division titles. The Cowboys never advanced past the divisional round, going 2-3 in the playoffs under Garrett's leadership.
Garrett then failed miserably as the Giants' OC in 2021. He oversaw an offense that finished 31st in yards gained per game (287.3) and points scored (15.2). Quarterback Daniel Jones was limited to 11 games due to injury and backup Mike Glennon saw lots of action.
Garrett has been a regular on NBC's NFL and Notre Dame football broadcasts since 2022. There have been no legitimate links to a return to a professional sideline. The Titans are casting a wide and unique net while searching for Brian Callahan's successor.
Mike Borgonzi appears to be prioritizing previous experience. Seven of the eight confirmed requests are retreads. The Titans may prefer a seasoned candidate after whiffing on first-timer Brian Callahan the last time out.
Titans fans truly did not anticipate Garrett's emergence as a candidate for their coaching vacancy. It proves Borgonzi entered the process with an open mind. Titans fans would be furious if an outdated candidate like Garrett is appointed.
