The Tennessee Titans have a sizable decision to make with the No. 1 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. Realistically, there are four prospects in contention to be the pick. Quarterbacks Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are considered the top two signal callers. Most agree that Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter are the best overall players available regardless of position.
The Titans are clearly in the market for a new starting quarterback after sophomore Will Levis failed miserably to take advantage of his opportunity in 2024. General manager Mike Borgonzi, president Chad Brinker, and new additions Dave Ziegler and Reggie McKenzie will collaborate to make a franchise-altering decision. The temptation to draft a quarterback will be strong.
Tennessee's front office will go through the process of analyzing Ward and Sanders closely. Members of the brass, Borgonzi and head coach Brian Callahan included, already met with Sanders at last week's East-West Shrine all-star event. They'll see both quarterbacks at the NFL Combine, and likely welcome them both to Nashville for pre-draft visits.
If the Titans draft Ward or Sanders, it'll be because they identified him to be an ideal fit for the franchise. Pro Football Focus recently conducted an exercise that matched every team with one prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft. Ward was their selection for the Titans.
Cam Ward named "Perfect Fit" for Titans in 2025 NFL Draft
"The Titans were seemingly the only non-playoff team to understand the assignment over the two weeks, “winning” the opportunity to pick first overall," Jordan Plocher and Josh Liskiewitz wrote. "Current QB Will Levis has done little to inspire confidence going forward, as his 54.5 passing grade was the lowest mark in the league for the 2024 season."
"Cam Ward made huge strides at Miami this season, posting 39 TDs to just seven interceptions with an impressive 28 big-time throws," PFF continued. "He is currently the top QB on the PFF big board and makes perfect sense for the Titans as they continue to rebuild."
Ward was electric for the Miami Hurricanes this past campaign, leading the program to its first 10-win season since 2017. The off-script magician threw for 39 touchdowns, 4,313 yards, and just seven interceptions. Ward also added four rushing touchdowns to his offensive totals, and was a strong candidate for the Heisman Trophy.
Can Ward operate Callahan's offense, one that prefers a rhythm-and-timing quarterback? That'll be a notable question throughout the pre-draft process. PFF believes Ward is the ideal fit. We'll see if the Titans feel the same.
