Will Levis takes the high road amidst mass text messaging harassment
By Ryan Heckman
The first two games of the 2024 season haven't exactly seen second-year quarterback Will Levis blossoming ... yet. The Tennessee Titans surrounded him with additional talent in hopes he could take a big step forward in Year 2, but so far, that isn't what we've seen.
In his first two games, Levis ranks 20th in the NFL in completion percentage (63.3), 26th in passing yards (319), 26th in passer rating (67.3) and 28th in QBR (35.7).
We haven't even mentioned the three interceptions (one which was taken back for a touchdown) and two lost fumbles. All of that should be more than reason to believe the Titans are sitting at 0-2 right now. Yet, Tennessee's defense is tops in the league, allowing just 206.5 yards per game. That's where the real frustration lies.
It is overly annoying, especially to fans, watching a team with such a dominant defense this early on; yet they cannot run an offense anywhere close to what would be considered efficient in manner.
Levis has been the biggest reason for this team's struggles. It's true. And, he deserves the bulk of the blame if we're being honest. Heck, even head coach Brian Callahan hasn't been shy about calling out his quarterback. Whether you support Callahan's methods or not, he's clearly been unhappy with Levis' performance and realizes his quarterback must improve, or else.
All of this said, this is still just football.
(Fans gasp)
More Titans news:
It is ... it's just football. This isn't a life-or-death conversation we're having, here. But, some folks simply don't understand that concept.
There is a line between being a frustrated fan while still being a good human being and taking things too far.
Will Levis has been the recipient of many threatening text messages
Somehow, some way, Levis' cell phone number was leaked recently. Because of that, the second-year quarterback had been receiving a whole lot of hateful messages.
“I don’t know how my number got out there with the fans, but I got a lot of texts,” Levis told Main Street Nashville.
It got so bad that Levis was forced to change his phone number, but he is now looking forward to being able to put all of that nonsense behind him. Of course, it wasn't just text messages ... social media isn't a fun place to be, either, most days.
“That’ll be nice to shut that part and put it behind me. I haven’t opened social [media] in the last couple of weeks. I just think that’s the healthiest way to go about it," he went on.
When it was all said and done, Levis opted to take the high road. As a professional athlete, he's obviously learned to have thick skin. The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and the ugly rears its head every day. But, he's choosing to see the positive.
"I don’t want to or care to hear any of the things people say about me, and I’m just going to keep chugging along regardless of what they say. It sucks that the world is the way that it is, and I’m looking forward to having some privacy.”
