The Tennessee Titans held their final organized team activity (OTA) practice on Tuesday afternoon. Participation during OTAs is purely voluntary, and several Titans players were absent, with some choosing to skip the festivities altogether, while others were inside the building rehabbing from injury. The following list of players were not spotted in attendance by local members of the media.
Head coach Brian Callahan had previously refused opportunities to distinguish which players skipped voluntary workouts versus which ones are rehabbing inside in the facility, but some of those players have been revealed. For example, presumed starting right tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere is rehabbing a shoulder injury that prematurely ended his 2023 season.
A big talking point has been the status of second-round pick T'Vondre Sweat. The defensive tackle from the University of Texas has routinely been absent from practice, missing time with an injury that Callahan has described as "minor." Callahan continued to express confidence that Sweat was working at the facility, and they anticipate he'll be ready for training camp. Sweat has missed crucial reps this month, but getting him healthy and ready for training camp is the current goal.
All Titans players were accounted for at mandatory minicamp. If veterans who were listed as absent such as Jeffery Simmons, Tyler Boyd, Harold Landry, DeAndre Hopkins, Calvin Ridley, Chidobe Awuzie, and L'Jarius Sneed choose to skip this voluntary portion, then it shouldn't be something that's blown out of proportion. It's worth acknowledging players like Boyd, Awuzie, Sneed, and Ridley have all played for members of the Titans' coaching staff, indicating they were likely quicker to pick up the new scheme this summer.
The Titans will now enjoy a midsummer break before training camp marks its merciless arrival. The full training camp schedule hasn't been announced yet, though it was revealed that the Titans will be hosting joint practices with the Seattle Seahawks in mid August.
