The 2025 season was a rough one for the Tennessee Titans. There’s no denying that. Part of the reason why was because of the overall performance of the team and the coaching staff. The Titans were the first team to move on from their head coach when they fired Brian Callahan in the middle of the season.

General manager Mike Borgonzi was going to pick his guy this offseason during the head coaching cycle. The chance to fix the problems in the organization and it was going to start with picking the right head coach. The answer that Borgonzi picked was bringing in Robert Saleh and giving him his second chance to be a head coach.

Saleh served as the New York Jets' head coach from 2021 until the middle of the 2024 season. There’s no doubt that things weren’t great, but the one thing you could never question was Saleh’s ability to get the most out of his defense. Those defenses in New York were consistently in the Top 10 under Saleh and when he was let go, the Jets fell apart completely and they are still dysfunctional under Aaron Glenn.

Clearly, Saleh was not the problem in New York and now he will get the chance to show it in Nashville. For any fans that are still skeptical about Saleh and his ability to lead this Titans team, Sayre Bedinger from NFL Spin Zone gave a ton of praise for the Titans hiring Saleh.

Titans receive massive praise for Robert Saleh hiring

Bedinger recently put together a power rankings list where he ranked the best addition each AFC team made this offseason, and the Titans hiring Saleh was at No. 2 behind the Denver Broncos trading for WR Jaylen Waddle.

"What we know Saleh can do is develop talent defensively, and get the most out of his guys. I think he's going to do extremely well in his second stint as an NFL head coach, and he's already pulled a lot of the right strings by hiring Brian Daboll as his offensive coordinator, and the man who will be tasked with developing Cam Ward." said Bedinger.

Everyone knows that Saleh has the ability to get the best out of his defense. What failed him was not getting the best offensive coordinator and not having promise at the quarterback position. This time around, he brought in Brian Daboll who despite his trouble as the Giants’ head coach, is a phenomenal playcaller. In addition, Cam Ward showed promise in his rookie season and the Titans have built him support.

A team can be very talented, but they can only go so far as the head coach pushes them. Players play hard for Saleh, which was obvious in both San Francisco and New York. The defense for Tennessee won’t be an issue since he will be the one calling the plays.

Tennessee has to build an identity and Saleh is just the right guy to make it happen. They have the pieces on both sides of the ball, and the right coaching staff as well. Now it’s time to make it work on the field.
