Nobody in the NFL will ever tell you they are looking past any opponents, so don't expect much bulletin board material from Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. But now that we know when the Titans will be taking on Daboll's old team -- the New York Giants -- in Week 3, you can bet he's going to have that one circled in red on his own personal calendar.
Daboll was unceremoniously let go during the 2025 season by the Giants after a number of disappointing years, and a couple of injuries to their first-round quarterback, Jaxson Dart. The Giants were 2-8 when Daboll got fired, which came almost immediately after the Giants blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead against the Chicago Bears.
There's no doubt that the Giants struggled in the final couple of years with Daboll at the helm, but the way they went about their business has undoubtedly created an angle for Daboll to exact revenge during the 2026 season.
Brian Daboll will get his shot at revenge with Tennessee Titans' matchup against the New York Giants in Week 3
The intrigue between the Titans and Giants in this matchup goes beyond just Daboll's connections to New York. The Titans added former Giants players in free agency such as Wan'Dale Robinson, Daniel Bellinger, Cor'Dale Flott, and Austin Schlottmann.
The Giants hired former Titans defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson in the same role this offseason, and the Titans were one of the teams in the sweepstakes for John Harbaugh, who wound up signing on with the Giants as one of the biggest coaching dominoes of the 2026 offseason.
The Giants also hired Matt Nagy as their offensive coordinator, and there were strong rumors connecting Nagy to the Titans' head coaching position thanks to his connection with general manager Mike Borgonzi.
For yet another layer of intrigue, the Giants hired former Titans head coach Brian Callahan as their quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator this offseason. So the "revenge" angle really goes both ways in this game.
Of course, everyone knows how much Daboll wanted to get his hands on Cam Ward in the 2025 NFL Draft, where the Titans held the top overall pick. The Titans didn't let Ward out of their sights, and the Giants were forced into Plan B, Abdul Carter at No. 3 overall, and Dart later in the first round.
Now, Daboll gets the chance to coach the guy he wanted in last year's draft against the team that made him look bad by firing him in the middle of a season. This is one of the reasons why we all love the NFL schedule release so much, because we know we can put a date to some of the best storylines throughout the course of the upcoming season.
And this one looks like it will be absolute cinema.
