The Tennessee Titans entered Monday's legal tampering period in free agency with a potential need for a veteran quarterback. Will Levis is not expected to return as the starter after struggling in 2024. The Titans have been linked to a plethora of quarterbacks this offseason, but one rumor emerged out of thin air less than fours into free agency.

The Titans are among the teams interested in free-agent quarterback Russell Wilson, according to a bombshell report by Connor Hughes.

Titans linked to veteran QB Russell Wilson

The quarterback dominoes have begun falling in NFL free agency. Sam Darnold, the biggest fish on the market, joined the Seattle Seahawks. Justin Fields joined the New York Jets on a two-year deal. That leaves Wilson with few straightforward options, with the Titans, New York Giants, and a return to the Pittsburgh Steelers as the lone remaining suitors that make logical sense for his career.

The Titans have kept their quarterback plans largely under wraps this offseason. General manager Mike Borgonzi owns the No. 1 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Titans have been linked to drafting Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward with that pick, but signing Wilson would potentially signal that Borgonzi is more interested in a veteran bridge quarterback.

Wilson has not played quality football in recent years. After failing to recapture his previous success in Denver, the Broncos released him and willingly absorbed one of the largest dead-cap hits in NFL history. Wilson played for the Steelers this past season, throwing for 16 touchdowns and five interceptions. The Steelers qualified for the playoffs, but were blown out 28-14 by their rival Baltimore Ravens in the wild-card round.

Signing the 36-year-old Wilson would go against Tennessee's supposed patient rebuilding plan, unless he agrees to be a backup quarterback. Borgonzi and president of football operations Chad Brinker have discussed taking a long-term approach. Signing Wilson could signal they're more interested in microwaved results.

The Titans are still hours into their offseason. They made a splash by signing free-agent left tackle Dan Moore Jr. to a four-year contract worth more than $80 million. By doing so, they also indicated that sophomore offensive tackle JC Latham will be moving to right tackle. Upgrading the offensive line was always a priority. The quarterback domino is still being sorted through in Nashville. Wilson would be an extremely unpleasant and unimaginative signing, considering the Titans' timeline to compete.
