The Tennessee Titans executed the unlikeliest of comeback victories on Sunday, overcoming a 21-6 fourth-quarter deficit to pull out a 22-21 triumph in Week 5. It took a number of goofy Cardinals plays to keep the Titans alive. It guarantees that hot-seat head coach Brian Callahan will survive at least another week.
The Cardinals made a number of boneheaded plays. Leading 21-6, running back Emari Demecardo appeared to have ripped off a 72-yard touchdown run. With replay assist, it was determined Demercado released the football in celebration early, resulting in a touchback and Titans ball.
The Titans responded by marching 80 yards in seven plays for their first touchdown in seven quarters. After the defense forced a three-and-out, Cam Ward and the offense positioned themselves at the Cardinals' 20-yard line. In a play that's difficult to comprehend, a scrambling Ward threw an interception. The Cardinals fumbled the pick, kicked the ball around backwards into their end zone while trying to cover it, where an opportunistic Tyler Lockett pounced on it for a Titans touchdown.

After the conservative Cardinals ran the ball ineffectively on the ensuing 3rd-and-8, they punted back to Ward with 1:50 remaining. Ward was electric, completing 5-of-6 passes on a game-winning drive to position kicker Joey Slye for a game-winning field goal. It snapped an 11 game Titans losing streak dating back to last campaign.
The Titans’ win probability was as low as 1.8%, the second-most improbable comeback win of the season, according to Next Gen Stats. Coach Callahan improved to 4-48 as the head coach of the Nashville-based club. The Cardinals executed an all-time choke job, but Callahan's squad played hard until the final whistle and were rewarded for their efforts.
Callahan has been under immense pressure in recent weeks. The Titans' front office has preached patience. Sunday's miraculous victory extended his shelf life.
