The Tennessee Titans have looked as bad as an NFL team can look after their first four games of the 2025 season, and it looked like Brian Callahan's time in Tennessee was coming to an end. In a truly improbable twist of fate, Callahan and rookie quarterback Cam Ward managed to dig deep and finally pick up a victory in 2025.
The Titans picked up the first win of the Ward era (and the fourth of Callahan's time with the team as head coach), against the Arizona Cardinals in a game that saw the Titans tack on one of their scores on a wild fumble touchdown that started from a Ward interception. The comeback was on after that momentum-shifting play.
The Cardinals conducted about as nightmarish of a loss as one could have imagined, as they were up 21-3 at one point and 21-6 when running back Emari Demercado dropped what would have been a 70-yard touchdown by letting go of the ball at the one-yard line.
As good as the win was for Ward and the Titans, this loss was so disqualifying for Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon that it might be time to talk about a firing.
Titans win could lead to Cardinals firing head coach Jonathan Gannon
Gannon has now fallen to 14-25 as head coach of the Cardinals. While he won four games in his first season with a team that everyone thought was dead in the water and managed to claw to eight wins last year, he has squandered all of the goodwill his team earned following a 2-0 start.
Between the offense being unable to pick up many big plays against a weak Titans defense and a much-hyped secondary wilting against an offense that was bordering on non-functional, this was as disqualifying of a loss as the former Eagles defensive coordinator could have possibly been witness to.
While Callahan is certainly not off the hot seat after this victory, this win may at least buy him some extra time. Winning on the road against a solid defensive team after trailing by multiple scores does not happen very often in the modern NFL, and Callahan should be commended for keeping this team together despite the wackiness.
Gannon, on the other hand, will need to explain to fans and ownership how his coaching staff can continue to be thought of as a winner. If he's choking games like this against a struggling coach and rookie quarterback at home, he might not get many more chances to replicate his showing against the Titans.
