Trade for Quinnen Williams DL, New York Jets

Maybe you have read my stuff before and know that I am a fan of the idea of trading whatever it takes to get Quinnen Williams. If not, then hello my name is Will Lomas.

For a while, the conversation was that Williams would do more to help a defense play better against the run (even though he clearly has great pass rush chops) and that the team would be better off looking at cornerback help and EDGE help.

And honestly, for 95% of the defensive tackles you could trade for, I agree that it is probably a better idea to spend the capital elsewhere.

However, Quinnen Williams is just different.

There are rumors swirling that he is on the block, then he isn’t on the block, but that generally just means that only one side is pushing these rumors out. I don’t know whether it is his agent that just wants him out of that dumpster fire in New York or if it is coming from the Jets who are desperate for picks to help their next coach rebuild this team.

In case you were thinking, “Maybe he is a bust and that is why they want to trade him.” instead of, “The Jets are a poorly run franchise and the Titans should capitalize on that.”, let me tell you something. Right now, Quinnen Williams is:

-Leading the Jets in sacks (3)

-Would lead the Titans in sacks (over Jeffery Simmons who has 2)

-Leads the Jets in TFLs (7)

-Would lead the Titans in TFLs (Kenny Vaccaro and Harold Landry both have just 7)

-He is tied for the Jets leader in forced fumbles (1)

Williams is just 23 years old and a trade would force the Jets to eat most of the already small contract. That would be worth a first round pick on its own considering the talent that you usually find at the bottom of the first.
