Vic Beasley

I was torn here to pick between Vic Beasley and Isaiah Mack, and that should tell you exactly how versatile Jadeveon Clowney is.

More from Titan Sized

Both Landry and Clowney have the ability to anchor an edge in the run game or to rush the passer from the position, which isn’t common. The difference is that Clowney can kick inside and rush the B-gap or stand up and rush the A-gap.

So, why did I pick Beasley here if that versatility is so important? I said that he could move around, but I am not sure that he will do it as much as everyone thinks.

I think what Vrabel wants from this Clowney signing is to be able to run four defenders out there and get pressure on the quarterback. Sometimes that means moving him around, but frequently I think that will mean going with Isaiah Mack on the inside next to someone who can push the pocket and make plays like that.

Whether that other defensive tackle is Jeffery Simmons or Daquan Jones will probably change from series to series, but with all of the stunting that the Titans have done since Vrabel arrived, you want someone with the power to shock an interior offensive lineman so when you do stunt, he can’t recover quick enough and the stunting EDGE wins.

Last year, Mack produced more sacks per snap than Jurrell Casey by a healthy margin and the team seems bought in on him. On the other hand, Beasley doesn’t have a role with the Titans because he hasn’t been practicing and they don’t know what he can do yet.

If Vic Beasley isn’t healthy in Week1 and Jadeveon Clowney is, then Beasley could have missed his chance to make an impact on this roster at all.
