Tennessee Titans: Evan Mathis the dream signing – Joe Soriano NFL SpinZone

Quietly, more teams are showing interest in veteran free agent left guard Evan Mathis, who is widely regarded as one of the best offensive linemen at any position in the business. With the Tennessee Titans looking poised to bench massive free agent bust Andy Levitre, ESPN NFL Nation’s plugged-in Paul Kuharsky reported that the Titans are “monitoring” Mathis’s situation, which is undoubtedly a wise decision for a bottom-feeder team with a plethora of cap space and an even bigger hole at the left guard position.

Tennessee Titans player on the chopping block this week: Offense Will Lomas Music City Miracles

It is the preseason and whether it is a big name or someone you don’t even realize is on the roster, the Tennessee Titans have teams of people watching all the players on this roster thoroughly.

With that in mind, this week’s player to watch on offense is Andy Levitre.

Tennessee Titans Welcome Jeff Fisher Back Sunday Randy Sharber TennTruth

Titans fans will assuredly give Fisher a warm welcome when he leads his St Louis Rams onto Nissan Stadium. (It is still hard for me not to write LP Field) Jeff coached here through name changes such as Adelphia Coliseum, The Coliseum, LP Field, and now Nissan Stadium. I feel like this one will stick for a while.

Fisher took over the then Houston Oilers for the last six games of the 1994 season. He oversaw the move from Houston to Tennessee as Bud Adams decided to move to greener pastures. The move was facilitated when the city of Houston would not help Adams build a new stadium. Nashville was more than happy to make that happen, and Nashville did make that happen.

Chance Warmack won’t pronounce himself a pillar of Titans’ offensive line Paul Kuharsky ESPN

As things shift around him on the Titans’ offensive line,Chance Warmack is unwilling to say he should be viewed as a pillar.

He absolutely should be one, of course. The Titans spent the 10th pick of the 2013 NFL draft on Warmack and the 11th pick of the 2014 draft on left tackleTaylor Lewan.

Those two must be the bedrock of a group the team wants to set a tone.

But Warmack declines to make such a pronouncement, preferring it come from elsewhere.

Titans expect Marcus Mariota to get blitzed – John Glennon The Tennessean

An NFL coaching veteran of nearly two decades, theTitansKen Whisenhunt can recall times — not necessarily all that long ago — when head coaches might reach out to one another before preseason games, informally discussing things like the amount of blitzing that might go on.

All that, however, apparently has changed.

“As far as when it changed, I don’t know,” Whisenhunt said. “We used to communicate, maybe, sometimes. But we don’t (now). I’ve had no communication with any of the other coaches.”

Sink Or Swim for 5 Tennessee Titans Kenneth Goit PFSpot

The Titans have made their fair share of whiffs in the preseason with roster cuts in previous years, namely current New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount and center Fernando Velasco, who recently re-signed with the team after stints with the Pittsburgh Steelersand Carolina Panthers.

They have also made terrible decisions with the starting lineup in the past based on preseason play, such as starting Robert Turner at center in 2013 over then-rookie Brian Schwenke and Velasco, who was cut due to the decision.

Despite these few fatal errors, Tennessee will make plenty of good decisions based off of preseason play. Here are five Titans that need to have a strong preseason.
