I just did a post on the remaining holes on the Tennessee Titans roster, which transitions perfectly into a “how do you fix them” post. History has shown that there is no better way to fix a hole on a roster than through the draft, and for this post that means the 2017 NFL Draft.

More from Titans Draft

The Tennessee Titans are lucky enough to have two 1st round picks in the 2017 NFL Draft. According to the most recent 2016 win total projections, the Titans will have the 5th (theirs) and 11th (LA Rams) picks in the 2017 NFL Draft.

If the 2017 NFL Draft were tomorrow, here is how I would use those picks (and no cheating and saying their will be a trade down) to fix this roster.

  • 5th overall: Jalen Tabor CB, Florida

Three of the teams in front of the Titans (Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, San Diego Chargers) all need a quarterback and we have seen that teams will choose that position over value at the top of the draft. The other team desperately needs to protect their quarterback, which I assume means an offensive tackle is heading to Jacksonville.

That leaves the Titans looking at a lot of great prospects. However, I believe they figure out their biggest need first and grab Jalen Tabor. Tabor thrived against weak competition, but he has good production and consistently gets his hands on passes. Combine that with a big frame and the Titans have their #1 CB.

11th overall: JuJu Smith-Schuster WR, USC

While his name is unique, it is his game that really stands out. He is a big play waiting to happen and again he is another player with good size (6’2″) that fits what the Tennessee Titans may be looking at in a player.

He can play outside or inside and win with his routes and his athleticism, but it is his consistency that stands out. Last year he had 10 games with 80 or more receiving yards and he had a touchdown in 8 of his games.

While I am not in love with him as a prospect, at 11 he could be just the player that the Titans are looking for.

I will do this exercise a few times between now and the end of the regular season. Hopefully it gives readers the chance to look at some players they may not be looking at to see how they would fit with the Titans.

It also is a great exercise to figure out exactly where the Titans should be looking in the draft by examining spots like cornerback and wide receiver during the offseason and through preseason.
