Week 17 Preview: Titans @ Colts

AUTHOR: Nick Bishop | IN: Titans | COMMENTS: None Yet

First off, Merry belated Christmas, and Happy Holidays to everyone. We hope that yours were filled with joy and spent with those you love.
Instead of a Titans/Colts game preview this week, we are going to preview the big hockey match that will take place here in just a few hours at the Sommet Center, as the Nashville Predators host the hated division rival, league-leading and defending Stanley Cup champion, Detroit Red Wings. The Predators currently sit at 3rd in the division with 36 points, and 9th in the conference, just one point out of a playoff spot. This also is [...]

It’s gonna look a little bit like training camp on Sunday…

When this year’s schedule came out, Week 17 @ Indy loomed large as a game that could very well control the Titan’s playoff destiny. I doubt that any of us have forgotten the “gimme” of a game (aka: the Jimi Sorgi Experience), that got us into the playoffs last year. Playing in a division that looked to be stronger than it actually was, many of us would have been thrilled to still have a chance for the playoffs during the last week of the season. It didn’t take too long to realize that the Titans weren’t going to have to [...]

Titan Up: Game Balls Week 16 – The “We Stole Your Girlfriend AND Stomped on Your Towel” Edition.

Offense: The Justin’s
Coming into the game, it figured to be hard going against the top-ranked defensive unit in the league. The Steelers hadn’t allowed 300-yards to an opponent all season, and the Titans were coming off of an anything but impressive offensive showing against that Texans. But that streak ended on Sunday, as Tennessee racked up 323 yards of total offense and scored 21 unanswered points, for a thoroughly dominating 31-14 win. The two J’s, Justin “Steady as She Goes” Gage and Justin “I Wonder What Is Going Through Your Head Sometimes” McCareins, made up for three-fourths of the [...]

Titans-Steelers Game Notes

HEY PITTSBURGH!
Everybody was watching and we just beat you up. Try to play us again and we’ll steal your girlfriend…
If the Tennessee Titans are going to the Super Bowl, they’ll be doing it on their own terms. The road to the Tampa is gonna go through Tennessee, as the Titans clinched home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs by beating the Pittsburgh Steelers today. And in fine fashion too, with a 31-14 stomping of the “the very not fake Steelers,” the second best team in the AFC.  We’re the best team in the AFC. We da’ best.

After Tennessee went up [...]

Week 16 Preview: Titans vs. Steelers

AUTHOR: Nick Bishop | IN: Gameday, Injuries, Titans | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Well Titans fans, this is it. The biggest game of the season by far for this Tennessee team. A win and they have home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. A loss, and well, they probably don’t. Unfortunately, the Browns aren’t coming back to town. Instead, it will be the red hot, 11-3 Pittsburgh Steelers. We wouldn’t be telling the truth if we said we were super-confident about this one, but it is a disgrace to see the Titans a 4.5 point dog at home. And if there is anything that the rest of the NFL should have learned by now, [...]

Tennessee Titans… as the underdog

AUTHOR: kellenbarton | IN: Titans | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Alright, so it looks like the Red Sox are out of the Teixeira bidding, leaving the Angels, Nats and (my) O’s as the remaining possibilities. And sensing that absolutely none of you care about that, let’s abruptly change subjects.
Sunday’s game against the Steelers, as noted by just about everyone, means a whole lot more than any of us would have thought-even a week or two ago. After the Jets loss, convincing wins against the Lions and Browns made the realistic probability of the Titans homefield advantage being in any danger less than likely. The loss against the Texans, though, coupled [...]

News & Notes

AUTHOR: Nick Bishop | IN: Titans | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

As the temperature drops and the season winds down, the leagues’ top players have one thing on their mind: will they be on the field for the big game at the end of the year? That’s right: 2009 Pro Bowl! (Wait, did you think I was talking about something else?). The Titans will have at least six players on the roster:
RB Chris Johnson
LT Michael Roos
C Kevin Mawae
DT Albert Haynesworth
CB Cortland Finnegan
SS Chris Hope
(link to complete roster)
Congratulations guys! This will be the first trip (hopefully of many) for Finnegan, Hope, Roos, and Johnson. Be sure to represent the organization with class and dignity. Alternates who could go as [...]

AFC South Breakdown: Week 15

AUTHOR: kellenbarton | IN: Titans | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

(Nick Bishop, Kellen Barton and Jody Whelan write for Titan Sized, which is FSB’s Tennessee Titans blog. Representing the rest of the AFC South are Black & Teal, Naptown’s Finest and Toro Times.)
Week 15 saw the division go 3-1. Not too bad, except for the one. Yeah, that’s us.
The Colts won a surprisingly close game to the still winless Detroit Lions (I assure you that if they’d lost we’d be writing about nothing but that), and, barring a huge meltdown, have a ticket to the playoffs. The Titans loss to the Texans puts their seemingly assured homefield advantage at risk. [...]

Titan Up: Week 14 “Blame-Game-Name-Lame Blahs” Balls

AUTHOR: Nick Bishop | IN: Titans | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Well, consider it “mission accomplished”, Titans fans. Most people don’t know this, but during the first day of training camp Jeff Fisher and his staff wrote one thing on the whiteboard for the entire team to see:
Fisher and Co. weren’t going to let a makeable, 49-yard Rob Bironas field goal to win the game, stand between the Titans and that goal. So, instead of getting angry at certain undefendable decisions made, feel comforted by the fact the Titans know what their doing, even when they’re the only ones.

Seriously, what in the hell were the Titans doing that last drive of [...]

Titans @ Texans Game Notes

AUTHOR: Nick Bishop | IN: Titans | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Titans lose 13 to 12 in Houston. The Texans obviously studied the tape on the Titans-Jets game: Spread the ball around with medium-length passes, throw the deep ball when we’re in man coverage, and use the running game to take some pressure off the qb. On defense, it still looks like challenging Kerry Collins is the best way to beat the Titans.
So…  Tennessee fails to clinch home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, with two tough-looking games remaining. Hopefully this is not a game Titans fans look back on as a missed opportunity.

First of all, give the Texans some credit. Andre Johnson had [...]
